S pooky songs, crazy costumes, gummi bats, black blood rain: Halloween is definitely my favorite holiday. The folks over at Red Bull know this about me, so they asked me to pick out 10 of my scariest seasonal jams to send shivers up your spine. New Mix for Garo Sparo
I wore some fabulous Garo Sparo corsetry pieces in my video for “Disappear,” styled by my vixen friend Frances Eugenia. So I was thrilled when they asked me to do a mix for the debut of Garo’s new reality show, Unleashed by Garo. The mix series is called Gossamer Swatch Sessions, and also includes awesome mixes from DJ friends The Captain, Jubilee, and more. Check the mix out here. Travelin’: Sacramento
A s a youth, I played about 100 random raves and jungle parties in California’s capital but I never actually saw a goddamn thing there except the insides of warehouses, muddy fields, and a rest stop called the Nut Tree where we used to buy pizza-flavored Combos, jerky, and those bottled Starbucks iced coffees (no wonder my stomach always hurt back then…). A few weeks ago, I went back to the Sac to play this awesome Tuesday night party called Grimey which, if you’re in the area and you like bass music, you should really not miss. I ended up staying a few extra days in Sacramento and resident DJ Whores was nice enough to show me some of the best spots in the city, including a few tasty vintage stores with amazing things I have never seen...
Haunted House For Real
T his is just my favorite track I’ve heard in a real long time. Girl Unit’s remix of a band called Breton who are on the mighty Hemlock label, which is run by UK DJ/producer/badman Untold. Girl Unit is definitely killing 2011 with the vibes and atmospheres and a meld of future garage and hip-hop with some sickness synths. While you’re at it, you can check Untold’s Radiohead-y side project, Dreadnought....
Travelin’: Thailand
I recently took two weeks off my hectic NYC schedule to go on vacation in Thailand, which is just as hectic as Brooklyn but in a completely different way. Not the most relaxing place I’ve ever been but full of crazy sights and adventures, many of which were simply too extreme to be documented in photo form.
